I am writing to all the media and especially to all the people who have supported me and believed in me. I want to express that I am very grateful to all of you for being part of my career and the story that I have already started to write.
I am really sorry for the way my words have been taken about the opportunity to run alongside a woman. I want to tell you that it has not been my intention to offend anyone, nor much less what I expressed is a reflection of a macho stance on my part. I accept that it was a comment, albeit in the form of a joke, out of place, and I understand that it is unacceptable. I am convinced of gender equality; furthermore, I share with you that there are women who are very important in my life and whom I admire more than anyone else. Not to mention Susie Wolff herself, with whom I have a good relationship and whom I admire for her determination; I wish her much success as a person and as a motorsport professional.
I reiterate my sincere thanks to everyone and I offer this race at Silverstone to all the women who have been with me and who follow my career closely.
With gratitude,
Sergio Perez
